An American heirloom with a well-balanced aromatic sweet/tart flavor, beautiful red color, and shapely. It was "the Honeycrisp of the 1800s" but, like a lot of heirlooms, it's a bit ornery to grow.
Used in cider, good for baking and fresh eating, its flavor is said to improve in storage, making it a good choice for the root cellar.
